The NAACP Providence Branch is holding its 93rd Annual Freedom Fund Dinner on Friday, October 6th 2006 with cocktails from 5:30-6.30pm with dinner to follow at the Providence Marriott at Charles and Orms Street. This year's keynote speaker is Lezli Buskerville, Esq., the President and CEO of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education. Ms. Baskerville has previously seared as National Legislative Counsel for the NAACP, as Vice President for Government Relations of The College Board, and as Executive Director of the National Black Leadership Roundtable. She was recently named by AOL Black Voices as one of the nation's 'Top 10 Black Women in Higher Education;" and by Ebony Magazine as one of America's Top 100 Most Influential Association Leaders. In addition, Ms. Baskerville was a founding member of The Baskerville Group, a legal and legislative services collective, an administrative appeals judge for employee appeals in the District of Columbia, a member of the appellate team at the
Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law, a congressional staffer, and a law clerk in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
The NAACP Providence Branch's Annual Freedom Fund Dinner honors individuals in the Rhode Island community who work towards accomplishing racial justice and equality. The NAACP Providence Branch is excited to welcome Ms. Baskerville as its keynote speaker. Ms. Baskerville is expected to convey an inspiring message regarding the accomplishments of African Americans in higher education as well as the importance of the minority vote.
